Boards are central to the leadership and management of sporting organisations. Being ultimately responsible for the organisation, and being empowered to make decisions in the best interests of the organisation and its members, the board should have a system for regular evaluation and oversight of its performance, and the performance of the organisation against its strategic goals.

Consistent with the Sport Governance Standard 9.1 “The board should regularly evaluate its performance and performance of individual directors. The board should agree and implement a plan to take forward any actions resulting from the evaluations”

Sport Australia has developed this Board Evaluation tool as a formal evaluation for sporting organisations. The process is independent and aims to assist boards to understand good practice governance and to identify opportunities for improvement.
